Charming 6 acre ''mini farm'' near Jasper Beach in Machiasport offers views to Howard Cove out to Seal Island from the living room and master bedroom/loft. The home, built in 1989 is kind of a contemporary farmhouse offering a large newer kitchen remodeled with hickory cabinets and Italian slate title, open living/dining space with wood stove hookup. Cathedral beamed ceilings and lots of windows add to the charm. The first floor has a full bath w/a clawfoot tub and 2 bedrooms. Upstairs loft area is used as the master w/its own bathroom. Outside you will find beautiful garden spots and room for your animals if you wish. Larger shed conveys with the property along with some fencing.
With its current population of around 1000 people, the town of Machiasport was first settled around 1630. One of the most notable events in Machiasport's history occurred during the American Revolutionary War. Machiasport played a pivotal role in the early naval efforts of the American colonies. In 1775, the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War took place near Machias, at what is now known as the Battle of Machias. The battle involved a group of colonists who fought British forces in an effort to seize a British supply ship, the Margaretta. This victory, while small, was a significant early success for the American colonists in their struggle for independence.
Machiasport and its surrounding areas became a strategic location during the Revolutionary War because of their proximity to the British-controlled maritime routes. The town's residents were heavily involved in the American Revolution, providing supplies and support to the cause.
During the 1800's shipbuilding was in high demand along with the local fishing industry. The area was very dependent on the sardine industry and canning for years. Now the lobster trade and salmon are popular for the area fisherman.
